Hello all Looking for a bit of advice, my current broadband deal with Plusnet is coming to an end, when I called to see what offers were available the girl reckoned as my speeds are low and only part fibre available in my area I would be better getting an EE sim on a monthly rolling deal and using that in a router which I would need to purchase.

Speed I get just now is around 20 Mbps which I realise is pretty poor but stay on an Island with old equipment to/from cabinet ?

Speeds say up to 100 Mbps on the EE network using this method, any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Some people using this sim for broadband. You can cancel plan after the 7 months. But it may suit your needs, at. 100 gig for £1 it's worth a punt, just to mess about with. Worst result your 7 notes out of pocket.
Expires 17th June 2025

(I've saved a lot of money using these cheap lebara sims. They've replaced our home broadband as well as mobile sims.Taken from the on site quotes)

If you go onto a 5g coverage checker and put your postcode if you can see which networks cover your area. If 3 have a good signal there are lots of deals of unlimited internet on their network. 4G routers will give upto about 100mb 5g upto 1000mb. The 4g or 5g router usually gets better results by putting on a window sill so you then connect to that via wifi or use things like network adaptors.

Morning Plasterer thanks for the reply

The person I spoke with suggested the EE rolling one at £20 a month( can cancel anytime and move to full fibre once available), coverage looks pretty good for my area I just wasn't sure the difference going from router using ethernet to firestick for TV to this new set up.

Current deal ends tomorrow and I move on to new one but still have the cooling off period to change my mind.

Not a big user but do have a couple of phones browsing and my streaming on TV (would that require a lot of data)

Cheers again

Morning

Had a look on coverage checker, says 3 not available in my area at the moment, EE shows as the best for coverage ?, not a gamer or using massive amounts of data but do use a couple of phones and tablet and stream TV, would this require unlimited data in your opinion.

Cheers

Streaming tv requires lots of data. The people who have gone to skyglass or sky stream they are using data for watching every channel. If you are at home a lot and watch iptv during the day and also evening i would suggest unlimited data. We easily run up 300gb - 600gb per month and we don't have our tv on during the day as we both work.

Not massive users but i thought streaming TV would use quite a bit so think I would rather have unlimited data to be on the safe side, just unsure how reliable it would be relying on a mobile network as opposed to router plugged into master socket but i believe there doing away with that soon and wont use landline, thanks for the reply

I have been through this and from my experience internet via cable is much better, but if you can only get 20mb you have to take that into consideration. I went with 3 home broadband on a rolling month by month contract at £24.00. I got a free sim router with that. It went well at first but i did get the odd drop outs and iptv sometimes wering around. Speed always seems good but i knew i always seemed to be watching the speeds. I decided to buy my own router which i did but by the time I sent the 3 router back and bought a smarty sim and set it up my own router had been blocked. I got it replaced but the company i bought it from i think sent me a faulty one, so it works sometimes and not others. It made the whole experience unpleasant. I went back to virgin after 11 months.

Cheers kegnkiwi I think you've answered my query and doubts regarding this and think I'll be sticking with what I have at the moment and just renew my deal with Plusnet,I realise my speed is poor compared to what's available elsewhere but on the whole it's pretty stable and does me for what i use sometimes better the devil you know an all that.
Thanks again
