Broadband Swapping openreach fibre box?

Any idea if you can replace another openreach fibre box with a possible faulty one? Daughter had the plasterers in doing work and since then the box is dead. Thanks

you getting any lights on the front? there is a little push on/off switch underneath where the cables go in,
it can be swopped for another ONT, but would have to be re-commisioned as each box has an unique s/n,
that will be linked to your address.

There was a "nick" in the power supply cable, repaired and soldered all working again now.

Don't believe this! Daughter had a carpenter out to fit new skirting boards and he had to move the white round plastic cover and the internet's gone off again.
Is this an easy fix or what's likely to have happened when the cover was moved?

Unplug all 3 plugs and then put them back , if it doesn’t work ring the service provider … just tell them it’s stopped working , they can test the line , if the fibre optics broke they can replace it

That's just a cover to go around the hole in wall where cable enters.

Check that the fibre optic cable is inserted properly. Then check the plastic thing you are pointing to. Open it and check if cable has been damaged.

When my parents had theirs installed I asked the openreach engineer about decorating - from what he said the fibre is very delicate so I would assume there is potentially damage to the fibre entering the property

Ring your service provider and just tell them it isn't working, when they test it they will be able to see it isn't, just don't tell them its due to decorating as who I am with (onestream) would charge me for it

PS: A little bit offf topic but still quite relevant... Are we not allowed to disscus the h@cking delelopment of the ONT on the forum. I see nothing really and found it quite incredible that no one is discussing this. or is everyone just have there on and keep quite.?

Not sure what ONT is but I don't think we're banned from talking about it.

If you could give a brief outline of what it is and does etc it might be helpful, try to keep it low key and don't use phrases that may be easily found on Google if they are a bit dodgy

Hi Mate! It`s basically the Modem ONT Box that gets installed from your Full fibre provider here in the UK. Pretty sure they have them cracked wide open ATM and you can manipulate the box`s quite effecivly. Example: Gain max upload / download speed... ect. Still early day`s for me , As it`s a lot to digest. I did purchase an extra Nokia ONT from flea bay so as to possibly have a tinker. If you google ONT hack... it will bring up some great reading and what is possible, But I belive it`s been cracked right open for us to dabble. 😍
I myself have just got rid of Vermin after 35 yrs of pain with them. My area was forced ransomed into their services for that long untill Full fiber came. I jumped ship almost imediatley from them f@@kers.
Now looking at ha@king and tinkering with new stuff .. As you do. and came across this ONT h@cking stuff. It`s gonna be a lot to take in and actually find the correct info..But it`s out there for all to see if you know where to find it... I am still digging through loads of stuff but it can be a bit daunting and very time consuming. 😵

I didn't know such a thing existed, I'm assuming the main benefit is greater upload / download speed?

I think it`s something like that..Remembering the Vermin days when we could change our config`s 😍 to gain the Extra boost.

From what I have read and it`s very sporadic info.... Peeps have been able to gain full control of the speed side and even remove there ONT Modem entirely and replace this with different models.
You can read up a bit more here ONT alternative for SFP fans Best to read the full thread from start to finish to get a better insight, Also along your read, you will come across some really important bits of info and links to this and that. 👍

To me, it looks like a serial cloning process may actually do it at this moment in time, ? But more info needs to be digested to gather full intel... Still it`s looking very promising from what I can gather and may open the floodgates. Full fiber ATM is in limited areas in the UK so it`s in it`s early days ,,,,, But yes...it does remind me of the Good old Vermin days when we could really tinker with this stuff. 😍

Reminds me on a seperate but Virgin note of the good old "eurovox" what a time that was!
